Burlesque Cabaret Vaudville Theatre 1300

Hello Everyone!
Fashion scares - photo by Ryan VisimaSaturday May 8th 2010 was a big night for us. We were in such a frenzy the whole Charm School lit up with excitement. There is a place called Centre of Gravity at 1300 Gerrard Street East in Toronto. This is where Lunacy Cabaret hosts a fund raiser for Circus Without Borders. Check out their website for more information. We had heard of these fun parties for quite some time, there is a themed night once a month and had the good sense to buy tickets in advance. This specific evening was “Fraternity and Sorority”. A 19 plus event for sure!!!  Not being at all shy about the content of the live vaudeville and burlesque skits, this only made Rupert whistle for more.

There is an audience participant twist as most people dress in the theme of the night. There are hecklers also which is not frowned upon so more enthusiasm from the on lookers the better. One still must respect the other patrons so everyone can still hear the amusing quips.

The performers are accompanied with a live band. This works well with the interactive audience experience. The entire place is filled with merriment, also a cash bar that is reasonably priced. The building itself lends an air of old theatre with a vintage entrance and a staff that make you feel welcome.

The tickets at the door are very democratic only one per person that is standing in line waiting for the great evening. Worth the wait but Rupert and I have realized the value of buying in advance. This way we can dress for each other and have a sense of occasion without the worry. Remember:

  1. Doors open at 8:30
  2. Show starts at 9:30
  3. You must go early if you want a seat.

We stood because we were entertaining two other couples and it was easier for us to mingle and have cocktails with everyone.

We would both love to see you at the next incredible night of performance art and a party scene unlike anywhere else in this city. We certainly will be frequenting this nightspot again and again.

It does not end there! Centre of Gravity also has classes on clowning and vaudeville theatrics.  For all ages!! Check out their schedule of events. Do not miss a thing that they offer including the Sideshow Café next door.

  • p.s. This is where you get advance tickets!
  • $13.00 advanced, $16.00 at the door.

We were thrilled to attend the two following themed nights and whoa!!! We love the energy there. Castaways and then Studio 54 were the next two themes. The costumes and the folks that appreciate the costuming were there in full force. Seen were characters appropriate for both events. Watch for their upcoming events. The invites are already flying. Ruby and Rupert will be attending again and again!!!!!!!

Back on track with the schedule of Lunacy Cabaret with “Halloween” in mind. Which is the next theme we will be attending.  Saturday October the 30th. What a perfect time to celebrate. After all Halloween is our high holiday here at Billy’s House of Charm.
